door broken down by fire department in apartmen

I left the gas stove on in my apartment, and while i was away, the fire department broke in to turn it off. I'm in a bit of a battle between my landlord and renters insurance(travelers) over who should pay to fix the door. My insurance company says that because I do not own the door, i can not claim it under my property or liability insurance. Since the door is part of the building, it should be covered under the master condominium insurance policy. I feel that i am liable for the damages and that it should be covered by my renters insurance, and Travelers is just trying to get out of cutting me a check. Does anyone have any similar experiences or can offer some suggestions/info. Thanks

i was driving another persons

i was driving another persons car and got into a little accident into my parkinglot at school. it was nothing big just a little bump when i was pulling out of my space. the other car was driving behind me. the owner of the vehicle gave me her insurance card and it said she was covered from the beginning of that particular month. when the other party tried to call the insurance company to collect the company said that the policy was not in effect. this was a fill in the blank temporary card, so i didnt understand why they would fill out a card for the vehicle and then not cover. well the other party's insurance company is trying to collect from me. i called the local police dept. and they told me that unless i was issued a ticket at the time of the accident stating that i was at fault, then it is the owner of the vehicles responsibility to pay. well as it turns out the police were never called to the accident and i was issued no ticket. i just want to get some further info. on this if someone can help. Thank you, yvonne

Subrogation versus other drivers insurance offer

My 1998 Mazda was hit from the rear and totalled. Due to circumstance, was unable to get the name of the other drivers insurance company at time of wreck. My insurance company USAA asked to subrogate the claim and made offer on totalled car. They are working a andquot;finalandquot; offer now. But, 2 days ago found the other drivers insurance company is GEICO. GIECO is now appraising the vehicle. My desire is that I get the most in order to replace the vehicle (I was 0% at fault). GEICO says 2-3 days then they should have offer. I really want to get USAA to wait out for GEICO offer. What advise can you give me? The amount USAA offered is approx $3500. I can't find any equavalent on internet sites without 30,000 - 75,000 more miles than mine had, and then prices are in the $4000 plus range.

Have multiple vehicles (5 pleasure-high

Have multiple vehicles (5 pleasure-high performance/modified to varying degrees and a daily driver)... 2 of the pleasure vehicles I show on occasion as well as drive even though my current collector policy forbids andquot;errandsandquot; , ect. I'm in Michigan. I'm looking for a reputable company who offers stated/agreed value which also allows for regular driving if I choose to do so, like going to get a movie at the local Blockbuster vs. a cross country trip(milage restrictions ok)I belong to online forums geared to these vehicles specifically(Corvettes)but opinions are much more prevalent than facts so I thought I'd offer the scenario here. The balance of the vehicles are under normal depreciating value auto policies since 2 are rarely out and the other is used for long distance travel. Thanks to anyone taking the time to read and offer thier knowledge.

Please help me pick the right insurance.

Hi everyone I am new to this forum and i hope you guys can help me pick the right insurance for me. Let me start: I have a 3 cars - Audi a6 avant (2.8 liter) 1999 - Audi a4 sedan (1.8turbo) 2005 (salvage title- rebuilt) (It was theft) - Hyundai Excel (1.4) 1996 And there are 3 drivers : - Me 18 years old i got my license about 5 months ago. I am going to drive audi a6 avant and then switch to a4 sedan. - My mom she uses hyundai Excel to go to work. But she is going to use a4 as well. - My dad he is going to drive audi a6. My current Insurance: - Audi a4 sedan is not registered yet so its not added to current policy. - Only my mom and my dad are added to policy. - Audi a6 avant and Hyundai excel. - The insurance company is andquot;Progressiveandquot; My problems with current insurance: - We are paying way to much for only 2 cars. - If i am added to policy we would be being much much more. So the real issue is money. New insurance requirments: - Audi a6 and Audi a4 insured in both ways meaning (For exmaple if I am driving and i hit a tree or something we will still get money back or if a tree falls on my car etc.) -Hyundai just in one way so that if the person driving hits other car then the person hit gets money from our insurance. - Not so pricey when teenage driver is added to policy. EXTRA INFO - We live in CT - We came to USA about 3 years ago. - My parents use to drive since they were 18. But they made U.S license about 3 years ago. Thank you and i hope you understand what i wrote. Sorry for my English.

I had an accident and

I had an accident and my car totaled. Since I was told it is totaled I have recieved a letter from my insurance company saying they are in the process of completing the evaluation for my car. In the letter they sent me DMV forms. The bill of sale, power of attorney, Pay authorization form for my finance company. They want me to only sign my name on required areas on the forms and leave the rest blank for them to fill out. But they have not offered a settlement for my car yet, and I feel really uneasy about sending those forms first. The adjuster also told me last time I talked to her I need to get those back to her asap. And nothing can go foward until she gets those forms. Does this sound right? Shouldn't I get some kind of offer first?

Expatriate insurance?

I just discovered today that expatriate insurance exists. From what I've read you can get policies that will cover you while living or working abroad, usually for anything from six months upwards. Policies covering health, auto and personal property insurance are available and more. You do need to make arrangements to have it in place before packing up and moving though, not once you've arrived. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these policies and how they work? They sound as if they'd be worth investigating further. We've often discussed living abroad amongst myself and my siblings when we get to retirement age. The benefit I see to these kinds of insurances would be dealing with companies you know and terminology you're familiar with. I'd imagine that'd be more straightforward than trying to set it up in a foreign country. Any thoughts on it please?

Bond Insurance

I stumbled across this website and was hoping you guys could clarify this... I read a lot of car forums and this part was in the legal section of one : Pulled over without car insurance? No problem! All states in the United States require that you have auto insurance to operate a vehicle if you're caught without auto insurance you can lose your license for up to 6 months and/or a minimum of a $1000 fine. There is a way to get out of this though. Depending on the state you live in, you have anywhere from 10-30 days to provide proof of insurance after an incident. To go your local insurance dealer and ask if they offer Bond Insurance. If they offer Bond insurance, ask them if they'll backdate it for you. This means that they'll give you a card saying that you had insurance for previous months, when you really didn't. Of course, you're going to have to pay for these months. A Bond Insurance is an auto insurance that covers a particular driver with liability on any car that he drives the rates are usually high, but its often cheaper for people with bad driving records because it doesn't cover a particular car. Once you get your backdated Insurance Card, you're home free.

VICTIM OF POLICE CHASE CRASH .. HELP!

Hello, can anyone give me helpful advice in my situation? Two weeks ago I was on my way home from work, stopped to pay the toll, and as I began to leave the toll booth was struck from behind by a large pick up truck that was going 77mph according to the police report. The truck was being chased by OPD (orlando fl police deparment). Im lucky to be alive as my car was very small (mazda rx8) and completely totaled. What makes this all worst is that I had no insurance. I had some financial difficulties and my policy canceled for non payment. I really messed up on that one. Another thing I have against me is that the vehicle was stolen (occupied by 2 suspects that were arrested). I got a hold of the police report and looked up the driver. This same year in August he was arrested and charged with felony 3rd degree theft. should he have even been out?? Now im stuck with out knowing whats going to happen .. waiting on a lawyer I hired who says was waiting for a full police report last I spoke to him. Is there any way I can get some kind of recovery?? Do I have any options? Please dont tell me I should've been insured, that is something that I am very much aware of. Certain unfortunate circumstances in my life led to me not being insured at the moment. Helpful advice please .. anyone. Thanks for taking the time to read.

should i sue?

I was involved in an accident over 3 months ago. I was hit by a van and my car was totaled. The van had a minor scratch on the bumper. The man did not get out of the van or call the cops. i called the cops while he moved his van to a parking lot and sat there. he didn't even get out of the van when the police arrived. The accident happened in between 2 townships so the first responding township took my statement and the other drivers statement. while talking to the other driver they said he was acting evasive and they smelled alcohol on him. they gave him a breathalyser and it came up 0.0. The officer told me that the accident actually fell in the other township and the other officer would be there shortly. After 45 minutes the accident was cleared and the other township officer finally arrived. he took our statements and left. When I received the police report from the second township it was very unclear. The officer stated that he responded and arrived right away. He wrote that there was no sign of intoxication of the other driver but he did smell of alcohol. He wrote in one part that the was a breathalyser given and then in another part wrote that there was not one. The report was a mess. I did not have collision coverage so my insurance company did nothing. The other drivers insurance company acted like they were going to pay. They sent an adjuster and told me that when it was settled i would get a rental and $3000 for my car. After that i did not hear much more. When i called, the claims representative told me that they did not know who was at fault because we both claimed to have a green light. Now almost 3 months later I am still out of a car and when I try to call the claims rep. she is not there and doesn't call back. When i speak to someone else they just tell me that it is still being investigated. I don't know what to do anymore. what should i do? should i sue the insurance company?

Need Help Making a claim! ASAP

My girlfriend was rear-ended by another driver looking for his cell-phone at a stop sign. My girlfriend had no insurance, but he did. Police arrived and made the report but did not write down his insurance info. because he told the police he was going to pay for the damages himself. Nobody was given citations by the police. 2 weeks passed and we never recieved a call from him to get the damages fixed. We called and his girlfriend answered telling us that he was not fixing the damages but his insurance would pay for damages. We never recieved any further calls from neither them or their insurance company.........Now we are trying to make the claim ourselfs but we dont have their insurance information, and they are refusing to give it to us. The police officer who made the report called and left a message and they have not returned the call to him. Now they are saying andquot;talk to my lawyer or take it to courtandquot; but all we need is their insurance info to make the claim ourselfs and get the damages fixed. They have done their best to avoid talking to us and seem to be having fun doing it. What can we do to get their insurance information so we can make the claim and avoid taking it to court and waste more time.

Insurance Didn't Pay And I Got Served

I got into an accident almost a year ago and my insurance still hasn't paid what they were supposed to and now I'm getting a summons into court. I know I was covered and I know that the injuries and car damages were covered and didn't exceed the limits my insurance set. I've contacted my agent and the case worker a dozen time or more asking for information and after a while they stopped returning my calls. They say they haven't gotten all the information, which I personally sent myself, and have neglected their duties. I don't know what to do and I'm so stressed out from the mess that I can't even get myself straightened out. I thought nine months ago this was water under the bridge. In a short, unemotional way of saying this....HELP! What steps do I have to take to get the other driver's insurance paid?

Do I have to "total" the car?

I was rear ended by someone causing some damage to my trunk, rear bumber, and some very minor body damage (the expensive part). The car is completely driveable and safe (according to a body shop), but because it is not worth very much the insurance company wants to total it. They say my two choices are to take a payment and give them the car or take a slightly reduced amount and then go through the process of getting a salvage title. My question is -are these really my only two choices? Can I not negotiate for a lesser amount and get the parts of the car fixed that I want to? The dollar amounts they have offered are fair, I just feel like I am being forced to andquot;totalandquot; the car. The process of getting a salvage title, also seems like a nightmare. I am in the state of Georgia if that matters. Any advide? Thanks.

repairs to almost new car

I'm new to doing this, so please be kind. I live in Ga. and have not had a car accident in 23 years. I was rear ended while driving my 2007 auto. I only have 13,500 miles on it and it doesn't have its first door andquot;dingandquot; yet. I have talked to the claims adjuster to understand the procedure to having my car repaired. I talked to two body shops today. One was on their andquot; approvedandquot; list and one was of my choosing. Both told me that the back bumper and one exhause muffler system has to be replaced. More damage might be expected when they take the car apart. I asked about replacement parts and both said the insurance company only want to use reconditioned bumpers. Isn't that wrong for a 2007 model car with the millage I have on my car? What recourse do I have before I choose to have it repaired. I'm not trying to get something better than what I had, but I don't feel I want something that might have been damaged and fixed either. Thank you for helping this old grandma.

should my sci father sue our insurance company?

My father was paralyzed on Sept. 9th, 2007, after he suffered a accidental fall after his treestand gave out from beneath him. However, our insurance company has yet to pay anything since his date of injury, far over the typical 30 day time alloted. On November 9th, we were informed that as of November 7th, our insurance company had only authorized three more days, which would have been up the next day, November 10th. The reasons as to which were left unknown, to both us and to the facility he was receiving care from. The only response we could get from our insurance company was that, Â'patients benefits are suspended due to claim investigation.Â' When we questioned them for advice or what they would like us to do, or where they would like us to admit him, we simply were left with a mere, Â'weÂ're sorry maÂ'am.Â' However we were aware the fact that our insurance company was battling the charges associated with my father going to that specific nursing home, as it was 'out-of-network'. Reason being, when we brought him back to his original hospital and admitted him into the rehab program in the closest proximity of our home address; therefore, complying with the insurance companies wishes by placing my father in a facility which would be Â'in network.Â' We have adhered to everything that they had asked of us, though to date, our insurance company has yet to validate the fact that my fathers care will be covered by them. Ultimately, such actions, or lack there of, have implemented additional stresses on our own lives and financial stability, for a reason that is completely unjustifiable. The problem with our insurance company needs to be resolved in a timely manner, now moreso than ever, as he is scheduled to be released from his rehab this Friday, Dec. 21st. However, our insurance company orginalled agreed to 8 weeks at Mayo Clinic- and he has only completed 4, as they had to divide his insurance into two phases, due to the restrictive nature of his braces. We do not want him to be released- because the chances of him being re-admitted after returning home would be rare. On the other hand, we do not was to re-admit him, come to find later that they in fact are not going to pay. Is there any legal action we may take against them for not providing answers for such an extended amount of time?

Total Loss Value too HIGH?

I was involved in an accident that was not my fault. Both drivers have the same insurance company. The cost of repairs is estimated at about $7000. I was told by the adjuster that the car would be totaled at 70% of ACV. It is a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4wd with 116000miles in average condition at best. (Needs tires yesterday and $4500 in previous body work, wear and stains on interior). KBB, Edmunds, and NADA have the value at around $8k-$9k so they sent me to total loss dept. Total loss told me it was totaled and that I had 5 days of rental car left and made arrangements to pick up the vehicle. The next evening (after Ihave arracnged financing and started looking for new car) they called back and said never mind we looked at the wrong file, your vehicle is valued at $11,900. I was shocked. I want the car totaled. Gap insurance will cover me whatever they pay but $11900 is ridiculous. How do I argue that they have overvalued the vehicle? I paid $12500 over a year ago from a dealer in excellent condition, with new tires, and 62000 miles.

New cars vs old cars - how does the insurance compare?

I know it's not comparing like for like and everyone's policy is different depending on their age, driving record, any previous claims, etc etc but bear with me on this. I'm looking for an answer in very broad terms. My dad has always swore that an old car will cost you more than a new one in insurance premiums because it doesn't have all the safety features or sophisticated anti-theft devices a modern one does. Basically he hates old cars overall lol and this gives him another reason to dislike them. His logic is that in the event of an accident you're likely to have more damage suffered to your own car and the other person's vehicle if it's an old one - not forgetting personal physical injuries to you, your passengers and the other driver too if you don't have something like an airbag for example. He also thinks an old one is easier to break into as well and therefore has an increased chance of being stolen. Old car=more risky in his mind. I assumed that the insurance premiums on an older car would be cheaper because it's ...well, it's old lol. It's not going to be worth nearly as much as a newer one if it gets into a wreck, which means it's not going to cost the insurance company as much in a claim. Anyone wanting to steal a car isn't going to target an old runabout. They'd want something worth having, would they not? Plus wouldn't a nice shiny new car be more likely to be pushed to the limits and therefore stand a bigger chance of being in an accident than a beat up old car? And the fact that you'd pay much more for it must increase the insurance, surely. As you can see, we're in opposite camps over this. I'm looking forward to see what responses I get. Thanks!

Should I have made a claim back then against the hospital?

I know this is now well out of whatever time limitations there are but I'm curious. When I had my son almost twenty years ago, I had an emergency C-section after many hours of labor. To cut a long story short, I was given more muscle relaxant than necessary to enable them to perform the op . It should have been just enough to relax the stomach muscles. Instead it affected all my muscles and because your heart's a muscle, my heart stopped. They gave me enough to last over an hour instead of around fifteen to twenty minutes, my dr said. It was seven minutes before they managed to restart it. I know the details as it was all documented after many months in a letter to my dr, but only because she made enquiries about it when the hospital made no mention of this in their note to her on how the birth went. They just said I'd had an emergency C-section. The head consultant had came to see me the following day after the birth and told me I'd gave them a fright. Obviously if I really was, I'd need to know that if I had to have surgery again. What I've I had a bad accident and couldn't tell anyone I was allergic? I was thinking I'd need to wear an SOS medallion. I'd relayed to my dr how I'd awakened in a single room with an oxygen mask on, a nurse sitting beside me and hooked up to a heart monitor with a red raw throat (apparently that was the breathing tube that caused that.) A snapshot of my son was on the bedside cabinet. He was being looked after in the nursery. I had a nurse remain with me round the clock for the next two days and was released a week later. Usually you're released within a day or so. I knew something serious had happened because my mum had been in the waiting room just a few doors along the corridor. She said that suddenly there were alarms ringing and lights flashing above the room door coupled with running feet. My husband was being kicked out of the operating room and told he couldn't be there just now as staff were rushing in. They were both terrified and had no idea what was going on. First time I saw them both after I woke up they were telling me and still trying to get answers on what had happened. The head consultant eventually told them I'd had an allergic reaction to the general anesthetic and it was the first time in thirty years anything like that had happened. She really did underplay it when I think about it now, but it was this fear of an allergy which made me mention it all to my dr. My dr was very annoyed that none of this had been mentioned and started looking into it. After much correspondence back and forth, they admitted it wasn't a reaction to the anesthetic at all but what was essentially an overdose of the muscle relaxant. I didn't pursue it after that although many said I should. I was just relieved that it wasn't an allergy, that I was ok and my son was ok. That probably seems strange to some people. Remember though that I was a first time mum, very exhausted and stressed that didn't want to go up against the health authority and it was months later before we got an answer out of them. I was just glad to have the weight off my mind. Bear in mind I wouldn't have had bundles of spare cash to cover a costly drawn out lawsuit either. Anyway, that's what happened. I should mention this was in the UK, which meant I'd have been suing the NHS (National Health Service), a government body. My opinion (and that's all it is, an opinion) as to what really happened is that it was an unskilled person administering that dosage of muscle relaxant because not long after this, my mum bumped into an old school friend. Her daughter had went through the exact same thing and they'd told her it was thirty years since it'd happened too! She'd actually had to be transferred to the main hospital across the road (the maternity one was a separate entity) as she'd taken longer to revive than I did and they thought there might be brain damage but in the end she came through it all ok. Her child was born shortly after mine. We'd never have known about it if mum hadn't met the lady nor she about me. Funny how these things happen - she hadn't seen her in decades. I've often wondered if I should have gone ahead and pursued a claim and would be interested in what people think. Would it have been worth doing? One lighter thing about this. I had a student nurse with me observing right from when I first went into labor nineteen hours before the C-section and I was his first birth. The poor lad (Marcus was his name) came to see me the following day and was as white as a sheet. He said he'd went home after his shift and had kept babbling about it all to his mum then not slept a wink worrying about me. He actually came back early to see if I was okay, the sweetheart. I remember him saying I'll never forget this one! Wonder if he ever did...

Can't get insurance co. to consider claim (Medicare related)

Hello, just like everyone else I have been looking to the internet to try to find a solution to an insurance problem. I've done a search here but can not find a similar case so perhaps the best thing to do is lay it all out. Thanks in advance for any tips or experiences you may have. My fiance's mother spent a long time in a nursing home before she died in March 2006. Medicare sent the patient a summary indicating benefits would expire (I think it has a 100 day limit) in a certain number of days from the date of the summary. Accordingly, the nursing home did not bill Medicare after the benefits expired and the patient paid the bill (a little more than $7000). United Healthcare is the secondary insurer but refuses to consider the $7000 claim because, they contend, they are responsible only for charges not paid by Medicare and there is nothing in file to show Medicare denied the charges. We told them the nursing home did not bill Medicare after they notified them benefits would expire after a certain date, therefore, there is nothing from Medicare on the specific dates of the claim. UHC insists that it must have a rejection from Medicare. We contend a rejection can not be obtained because the nursing home is not going to bill Medicare for charges that do not exist (they were satisfied by the patient). We are thinking of going to Small Claims but wonder if we have a chance. Does anyone have any advice?

Is there such a thing as a non at fault accident?

I was involved in a car accident. I was driving out of my apt complex and used an exit that was fairly steep. The roads were icy but I thought that this road had been salted. As I drove onto the downward sloaping road, I hit my breaks but it was too late. I drive a 4 wheel drive 4 Runner and started to accelerate even though I had my foot on the brake b/c of the weight of the car and the icy road. There were already 2 other cars who had previously wrecked in front of me b/c of the same reason. They just happened to wreck at different times and the 2nd person did not hit the 1st person (by some miracle). I hit the 2nd car and pushed it into the first car. My insurance has come back and said that they will be paying for the damage that my car caused to both vehicles. The apartment complex came by to salt 30 minutes after my accident and 5 or 6 cars came driving by and made it down this road successfully. If these two cars had not been there or if they had cleared their cars from the scene of the accident, I never would have hit them. Is there such a thing as a non at fault accident where everybody's insurance pays for their own car. As this accident was not caused by my reckless driving, how can I be held responsible especially when the simple act of salting the road allowed many other cars to pass within the same hour of my accident.

repairs taking forever

Im curious on what I should do next. My truck was hit and run right in front of my house by some idiot drunk driver. This happened on october 14th... The insurance company gave me a rental for 30 days * I actually had it 31 and had to pay that extra day* since then Ive had to take my truck back to the body shop and service center 4 times!! on the same problem over and over again. The problem rundowns? *other then the initial $3600 that was caused. It had a terrible vibration and it pulled to the right so I took it back and they said it was the alignment and the tires werent balanced... I get it back the following day SAME PROBLEM!. I take it back again and they say this time the frame is bent slightly and they have a machine to fix it. 2 days later I get it back with a slight vibration and the truck now pulls to the left. Now on top of all of this my bed still looks slighly crooked and the engine is making a squealing noise ... we dont even wanna get into the squealing noise. Im trying not to rant here... the basic run down is... AFTER they supposedly fixed it I had to get a new tire put on, rotate the tires, get the bed fixed *twice*, fix the pull to the right *twice*, get a new water pump, a new fan clutch *which I paid for!!* and get the heater in the car fixed. Now my adjuster says that my truck being parked and getting knocked back about 5 feet wouldnt mess any of the tires up except the one that got hit. So he refuses to buy 4 new tires for the truck * the tires were less then a year old*. It is now december 8th and my truck was hit in october. Is there anything I can do at this point? maybe seek legal action? .... Im sooo frustrated right now. sorry for the typos and Im sure I missed a few things about the truck
